Yamaha rider becomes first Indonesian to win world championship race

In a stunning display of racing action, Galang Hendra (Team MOTOXRACING) took his debut victory in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, as he made history to become the first Indonesian rider to secure a world championship race victory.

Instantly locked in an eight rider battle for the victory, Hendra rode the wheels of his Yamaha to stay up and fighting with his rivals and was sat in the top five with three laps remaining. Sat in the top three positions in the final laps, it was a drag race to the line for Hendra, which saw him beat Scott Deroue (MTM HS Kawasaki) at the chequered flag and take the victory.

Delighted with the result, Hendra explains: “I am very happy about this result, the race is very difficult and we have many fights with the other riders. This is the first time for me racing in Jerez, and the second time racing in Europe so I am very happy I could win in Jerez and I want to say thank you to my sponsors and especially Yamaha – thank you for everything!”
